In 1965, when Howard Lallande was 16, his father, Henry, who worked for Newton Asphalt (now Virginia Paving) as their engineer/estimator, put him to work in the industry. That first year, his father asked him “do you want to work with your muscles or your mind for the rest of your life?” From 1965 to 1973, Howard worked with his muscles learning how to properly install asphalt and concrete. In 1973, Howard suddenly lost his father and was given the opportunity to have his own business by the owner of Newton Asphalt. Thus, the transition from muscle to mind transpired. Hard work and honesty have been the basis for continuation of Lallande Asphalt Paving Company, Inc.
Howard heard from his father, long before 1965, “do the best you can, that's all anyone can ask”. With this as a premise, right from the beginning, Howard Lallande has strived to be the best paving contractor.
Howard learned early on that workmanship is key to providing the best job with the most longevity. Design is fine, but without quality workmanship, the job is not “the best you can do”. To achieve this quality workmanship, we have assembled a dedicated crew, all of whom have worked for us season after season and are lead by a crew chief who is a perfectionist.
So here we are in the 21st century, with the same purpose, with the same intent, with the same quality, providing our customers with the job that lasts the longest, which in our opinion, is the best value.
